This morning, we visit the historic city of Durham, nestled in the ‘Land of the Prince Bishops.’ The UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral and castle dominate the picturesque riverside, offering a striking backdrop to your exploration of the city’s charming cobbled streets, unique shops, and inviting cafés.

In the afternoon, we return to the hotel, where you can unwind and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps taking advantage of the hotel’s excellent facilities to relax and recharge.

Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum

Today, we head to the picturesque market town of Barnard Castle, named after the historic fortress at its heart. This charming town is filled with antique shops, independent boutiques, and inviting cafés, offering plenty to explore and enjoy.

After some free time to wander and soak in the atmosphere, we continue to the nearby Bowes Museum, an exquisite French-style château. Here, a light lunch awaits before our visit to the museum, which boasts an impressive collection of art and artifacts, including the captivating Silver Swan automaton—a marvel of 18th-century engineering that gracefully dips to catch a silver fish.
