Valkenburg

Valkenburg, often referred to as ‘Marlstone Town’ due to the lime and soft yellow marlstone in the soil, has been quarried for building materials since Roman times. This has resulted in an impressive network of over 150 miles of underground corridors beneath the town, with a visit to these caves highly recommended.

Above ground, the town offers a wealth of attractions, including the ruins of a castle, along with a variety of shops, bars, cafés, and restaurants to explore.

Aachen and Monschau

Today, we embark on an included excursion to the historic city of Aachen, where you’ll have time to explore the beautiful old town. Aachen is renowned for its impressive cathedral and the iconic Elisenbrunnen fountain, which symbolizes the city.

Next, we journey through the scenic Eifel Mountains to the quaint town of Monschau, known for its picturesque half-timbered buildings. Often called the “Gem of the Eifel Region,” Monschau sits on the banks of a small river, with ruins of a stone watchtower and an old palace perched on the surrounding hills.

The town’s charming restaurants and shops are connected by a series of bridges, leading to the town centre, where a beautiful church proudly stands.

Maastricht

Enjoy an included excursion to Maastricht, where you can explore the charming old town or take a fascinating tour of the underground passageways and vaults. These hidden spaces once protected many of the Netherlands’ art treasures during World War II.

Discover the Stokstraat Quarter, the impressive Basilica of Our Lady, and the historic Ramparts as you wander through this beautiful city.
